The Togo eVisa photo, per the portal itself

Togo routes every visa application through one official platform, Togo Voyage (voyage.gouv.tg) — its own FAQ says embassies no longer take visa applications except when the platform is unreachable. The platform publishes an unusually precise photo rule in its own procedure guide: the photo must measure exactly 35 mm wide by 45 mm high, with the face taking up 70–80% of the photo, on a white background. Its photo-check tool accepts PNG, JPG or PDF up to 5 MB. This page presets that shape (700×900 px = the same 7:9 proportions) and a byte target safely under the cap — drop your photo, drag the crop preview so your face sits right, and PixFit hands back a compliant-format JPEG without the photo ever leaving your device.

The portal checks your photo — use its own checker too

Rare among visa portals, Togo Voyage runs an official photo-compliance checker of its own — the “Check my photo” tool linked from the application guide. Upload a candidate photo and it returns compliant or non-compliant with a list of what failed, checked automatically on the portal's side. The platform's landing page warns that a non-compliant photo can mean rejection or delays, so the honest workflow is: fix the mechanical things here (shape, framing, file size, format), then run the portal's own checker for the judgment calls PixFit can't make — lighting, expression, background evenness. PixFit can put your face at 70–80% of the frame with the drag-crop, but it cannot verify composition; the portal's checker can.

Millimetres, pixels, and the numbers guides invented

35×45 mm is a print measure — the portal publishes no pixel dimensions at all. Digitally, what you control is the proportions (7:9, portrait) and the file. Third-party photo sites have filled that gap with invented precision: two sell “827×1063 px at 600 DPI” (a DPI projection that appears nowhere on the portal, one wrapping it in an “ECOWAS biometric standard”); one sells “600×600 to 1200×1200 px” — the square US DS-160 visa spec pasted onto Togo wholesale; one invents a “minimum 600×600” and tells you to remove eyeglasses; and one sells a “plain gray background” when the portal's own text says white. The official criteria list even allows glasses, provided there are no reflections or shadows on them. When a guide and the portal disagree, the portal wins.

The full official criteria list

The platform's FAQ publishes the complete quality checklist for the ID photo: taken within the last 6 months, in colour, natural-looking, sharp, unretouched; even lighting with no under- or over-exposure, no shadows, no reflections; background plain, uniform, ungradiated; the whole head in frame and centered; face straight-on, eyes on a horizontal line, shoulders square; neutral expression, mouth closed; head bare, face and eyes fully visible. Note “unretouched” means appearance — no beauty filters or AI touch-ups. Re-encoding to meet a size cap is file plumbing, not retouching; it changes bytes, not your face.

What PixFit actually does here

Three real jobs. First, iPhone photos: the checker takes PNG/JPG, not HEIC — PixFit decodes HEIC in your browser and hands back a JPEG. Second, oversized files: modern phone photos can exceed 5 MB; the preset target re-encodes to safely under the cap at the best quality that fits. (The checker's own code enforces the cap in binary megabytes — 5,242,880 bytes — but this page's 4.75 MB preset stays under 5 MB in every byte convention, so the distinction never bites you.) Third, framing: type or keep 700x900 in Exact size and drag the crop preview until your face fills 70–80% of the height. There is no minimum file size, so nothing needs padding, and the re-encode strips EXIF metadata (including GPS) as a side effect. If your photo already fits and frames well, PixFit says so — upload the original.

Before you pay

Facts from the platform itself: the visa fee is non-refundable, and once the form is submitted and paid no correction is possible — check everything, photo included, before paying. Standard processing is 5 working days; a surcharge applies to applications lodged less than 6 days before arrival. Your account email and phone number must be real and durable — the immigration slip (with your details in a QR code and, if granted, your visa references in a barcode) is delivered there. All visa types require one recent passport-size photo; arriving by air adds a flight confirmation, and the payment-proof upload takes PDF/JPEG/JPG/PNG under 5 MB.

Apply on the official site, resize on your own machine

The only official application platform is voyage.gouv.tg (support line 8988 in Togo) — type the address rather than clicking an ad; agency sites file the same form at a markup and are the source of most of the invented specs above. And since a visa photo travels with identity documents, it shouldn't detour through a resizer's server: PixFit re-encodes entirely in your browser and nothing is uploaded. A note for West-Africa corridor travellers: neighbouring Benin's e-visa (evisa.bj) currently asks for no photo upload at all — the application starts with just your email and passport number, so don't let a photo site sell you a “Benin e-visa photo” either. See the full verified table for every country covered here.

Spec source: Togo Voyage's own published procedure text, photo-criteria FAQ and the photo checker's validation limits at voyage.gouv.tg, as read July 2026. These numbers change — if the portal's upload screen disagrees, believe the portal.
