Drop your photo, get a JPEG under the APCAP portal’s real 450 KB cap — the number printed in SLPRB’s own user manual and advertisements, not a resizer’s guess. Everything runs in your browser; nothing leaves your device.
Assam Police recruitment runs through one place: the Assam Police Common Application Portal (APCAP, apcap.in) of the State Level Police Recruitment Board (SLPRB, slprbassam.in). Two of the board’s own documents state the upload rule, word for word the same. The portal’s User Manual for Application Process, Session 2025–2026: the photograph must be colour, on a white background, maximum file size 450 KB, in JPEG, JPG or PNG; the signature must be signed with black or dark blue ink on white paper, maximum 100 KB, same three formats. And the January 2026 advertisement (Forester, Forest Guard, 981 AFPF Constable posts and more) repeats the same numbers verbatim in its documents clause. That is the entire size spec — no pixel dimensions, no minimum size, nowhere. This page is preset to it: a 439 KB target, safely under 450 KB whichever way the server counts a kilobyte.
Most exam portals allow 20–50 KB; SLPRB allows nine to twenty times more. That headroom is the story: a phone photo fitted to 439 KB keeps near-original quality, while the guides circulating for Assam job portals tell applicants to squeeze the photo to “20 kb–50 kb” — up to 22× smaller than the board permits, for no reason at all. This photo isn’t decoration: the advertisement runs the physical tests under CCTV surveillance with RFID chips, and the uploaded photograph is the identity anchor for every stage. Neither the manual nor the advertisement publishes any pixel dimensions. The resizer sites fill the vacuum with confident, mutually contradicting numbers: one sells “280×350 px, 100–450 KB” and labels it official; another hands out “413×531” photos and “472×236” signatures for SLPRB; a third says “10–450 KB”. None of those figures appear in any SLPRB document. A normal portrait passport-style crop at whatever resolution your camera produced is exactly what “latest passport size photograph” means — size the bytes, keep the pixels. If the form on your screen ever states dimensions, believe the form and type them into the Exact size field.
First-party there is no minimum size — the invented “100 KB floor” comes from the same pages that invented the pixel sizes. But the portal’s upload widget sits behind registration, where no one can audit it from outside, so this page hedges at zero cost: if your fitted photo happens to come out under 101 KB, PixFit pads it up with a spec-valid JPEG comment (plain bytes the format allows; pixels untouched, and the comment says in plain text that it’s padding). You upload a file that satisfies the real rule and the folklore one. Clear the minimum field if you’d rather not pad.
Sign on white paper with black or dark blue ink — SLPRB permits both, which matters because plenty of portals insist on black only. Photograph or scan the signature and fit it here with the target set to 95 KB, comfortably under the 100 KB cap. If the scan picked up grey paper or shadows, run it through the signature cleanup tool first: it finds the ink, whitens the background, and hands back a clean JPEG ready to fit.
The manual dates the photograph: for the 2025–26 session it must have been taken after 15th December 2025 — the advertisement likewise wants the latest passport-size photograph. The cutoff moves with each session, so read it off your own advertisement; the principle doesn’t move: an old profile picture fails on content however perfectly it’s sized. Have a fresh one taken against a white wall, then fit it here. (PNG is genuinely on the accepted list — unusual for Indian portals — but photographs belong in JPEG, which is what PixFit outputs and what studio files already are.)
An APCAP registration is reused across everything SLPRB recruits for: Assam Police constables and sub-inspectors, the Forest department (Forest Guard, AFPF), Fire & Emergency Services, Prisons, Excise, and Civil Defence & Home Guards. Alongside the photo and signature, applications want scans of your age proof, pass certificates and marksheets, Employment Exchange registration card and Aadhaar — the documents clause of your advertisement lists the exact set per post. And SLPRB is not APSC: the Assam Public Service Commission runs the state civil-service exams on its own portal with its own rules — nothing on this page applies there.
Applications are filed only at apcap.in, linked from SLPRB’s advertisements at slprbassam.in.
