Drop your GATE photo, get a 530×690 px JPEG inside the 5–600 KB window — the official maximum resolution. For the signature, set Exact size to 580x180 and Target to 300 KB. Nothing is uploaded; it runs in your browser.
GATE 2027 dates (from gate2027.iitm.ac.in): the GOAPS application portal opens Friday, August 14, 2026; regular registration closes September 21, and the extended window (with late fee) closes September 30. Exams run across three weekends — February 6–7, 13–14 and 20–21, 2027 — with results on March 19. IIT Madras convenes this cycle, and its photograph-and-signature page republishes the spec below with the same numbers as the 2026 cycle (checked July 30, 2026). One more reason to get the photo right: the same image is printed on your admit card and score card.
The GATE application portal (GOAPS) accepts the photograph as a JPEG/JPG between 5 KB and 600 KB, with pixel dimensions from 200×260 up to 530×690 and a width-to-height aspect ratio between 0.66 and 0.89. This page is preset to 530×690 — the official maximum, whose 0.77 ratio sits comfortably inside the allowed band — with the full 5–600 KB window. Drop your photo and download the result. The 600 KB ceiling is generous, so PixFit will usually land at maximum quality with no downscaling.
The signature upload is a JPEG/JPG between 3 KB and 300 KB, from 250×80 up to 580×180 pixels, with a height-to-width ratio of 1:R where R is between 2.75 and 3.75 — i.e. a wide strip roughly three times as wide as it is tall. To do it here: type 580x180 into Exact size (ratio 3.22, inside the band) and 300 KB into Target. Sign in black or dark-blue ink on plain white paper, photograph or scan it straight-on, and crop close so the signature covers 70–80% of the image, as the instructions require.
Coaching and news sites widely misquote the GATE figures — one prominent guide claims the photo must be “5–200 KB” at “480×640 max”, neither of which appears in the official instructions. The numbers on this page come from the organizing institute's photograph-and-signature page at gate2027.iitm.ac.in; each year's organizing IIT republishes them — IIT Madras's 2027 page carries the same figures as IIT Guwahati's 2026 page — and that page is the authority if anything here disagrees.
GATE also rejects on composition: the face must cover 60–70% of a passport-style photo (3.5×4.5 cm) taken against a plain white background, frontal view, eyes open, no caps or sunglasses (vision spectacles are fine), and it must match how you'll look on exam day.
