Indonesia’s civil-service recruitment — CPNS and PPPK alike — runs through BKN’s national portal, sscasn.bkn.go.id. Its public pages publish exactly one hard number, and it isn’t on the pas foto: the account-creation flow’s identity step takes your KTP scan as JPEG only, maximum 200 KB. That rule sits in the upload form itself (accept="image/jpeg", max size 200KB), and the portal’s own rejection message states it verbatim: “Berkas harus memiliki format jpeg dengan ukuran maksimal 200KB.” A phone photo of a KTP is 2–5 MB, so this is the wall most applicants hit first. A detail from the portal’s own upload code: the file-upload library it ships counts “200KB” in binary units, so the browser-side check allows up to 204,800 bytes. Whether the server behind it counts the same way isn’t visible from outside, which is why the preset lands at 199,680 bytes — under 200 KB in the decimal reading and the binary one, so the distinction never becomes your problem.
Older walkthroughs tell you to prepare a swafoto (selfie) file — some even quote “max 300 KB” for it. The current account flow doesn’t work that way: step 1 at daftar-sscasn.bkn.go.id is a live webcam face-verification — the page opens your camera, walks you through staged movements (“Tahap 0/4”), and captures the swafoto itself. There is no selfie file to resize, so a guide telling you to compress one is describing a flow that no longer exists. What you still prepare as files: the KTP scan, the pas foto, and your ijazah/transcript scans.
The portal’s FAQ for the current selection lists a “pas foto digital berlatar belakang merah” — a digital photo on a plain red background — among the documents to prepare. That, plus the JPEG format the portal favours everywhere, is the whole public rule: no pixel size, no minimum, no “4x6 cm at 300 dpi” appears anywhere on the portal’s public pages. The pas foto’s own byte cap is shown on the upload screen after login, per document — so read it when you get there, and believe it over any guide, this page included. A file at or under the one cap the portal does publish — 200 KB JPEG — is the safe preparation: if the screen allows more, it still passes; smaller caps for specific slots are rare and visible right where you upload. For composition, a normal passport-style head-and-shoulders portrait crop (roughly 3:4) on solid red is what every accepted example looks like — that part is convention, not a portal rule.
Search for the SSCASN photo size and you’ll find confident, precise specs: “minimal 100 KB, maksimal 200 KB”, “4x6 cm portrait”, “300 dpi minimum”, “selfie max 300 KB”. Those figures circulate from guide to guide, not from the portal — BKN’s own Buku Petunjuk (the official registration guide PDF) lists which documents to prepare and then defers every size rule to “ketentuan di web” — the rules shown on the upload screen itself. Some of the recycled numbers may match what a given year’s upload screens showed; the swafoto one is provably stale. The order of authority is simple: the upload screen in front of you, then the portal’s published pages, then nobody.
Beyond photo and KTP, applications want your ijazah (diploma), transcript, and whatever additional documents the instansi you’re applying to lists in its announcement — statements, certifications, sometimes accreditation letters. Their formats and caps are likewise shown per-slot at upload, and document slots generally want PDF. SSCASN runs cycle after cycle: as of late July 2026, the Sekolah Rakyat teacher selection has its pemberkasan (post-selection document completion) window scheduled 28 August – 11 September 2026 on the portal’s own timeline — that step is nothing but document uploads — and national CPNS/PPPK intakes recur with registration windows announced on the same portal. Files prepared right — red-background pas foto, crisp KTP scan, each under the cap — carry across cycles, since your SSCASN account persists.
A KTP scan carries your NIK, address and date of birth; it has no business passing through a resizer’s server.
