Drop your photograph, get a 200×230 px JPEG between 20 and 50 KB — the IRDAI Assistant Manager upload format, minimum included. Nothing is uploaded; it all runs in your browser.
The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India recruits Assistant Managers (Actuarial, Finance, Law, IT, Research and Generalist streams) through an online form on the IBPS platform that takes four image uploads — and the notification is blunt about it: “Your Online Application will not be registered unless you upload your Photograph, signature, left thumb impression and hand written declaration.” The most recent recruitment notification on irdai.gov.in (AM 2024, 49 posts) specifies them exactly:
Photograph: recent passport-size colour picture against a light-coloured, preferably white background, 4.5×3.5 cm, 200×230 pixels (preferred), 20–50 KB — this page is preset to exactly that, minimum included. Caps, hats and dark glasses are not acceptable (religious headwear is allowed if it doesn't cover the face); glasses are fine if your eyes are clearly visible. Signature: 140×60 pixels, 10–20 kb, black-ink ballpoint on white paper — capital-letter signatures are not accepted. Left thumb impression: 240×240 pixels at 200 DPI (3×3 cm), black or blue ink, 20–50 kb. Handwritten declaration: written in English in your own hand in black ink (not capitals), 800×400 pixels at 200 DPI, 50–100 kb. These are the IBPS-family formats — the signature and thumb & declaration pages carry the matching presets and scanning advice, and SEBI Grade A and SIDBI use the near-identical set.
IRDAI's own notification states the declaration dimensions as “8000 x 400 pixels in 200 DPI … i.e. 10 cm X 5 cm”. Read that literally and your declaration would be a metre wide: 8000 pixels at 200 DPI is 101.6 cm. The PDF's own centimetre figure resolves the typo — 10 cm at 200 DPI is 800 pixels — and 800×400 is exactly what IBPS, SEBI and SIDBI specify for the same upload. Scan your declaration at 800×400 and it satisfies both the intended spec and the portal. (The same section also rules out signatures in “CAPTAL LETTERS” — official PDFs have typos; the numbers above are what they enforce.)
Of the tools selling an “IRDAI photo resizer”, one has the photo and signature windows right — and omits the thumb impression and handwritten declaration entirely. Another sells a name & date stamp tool for IRDAI — there is no name-or-date-on-photo rule anywhere in the notification (that rule belongs to UPSC and some state PSCs). A third invents the spec outright: “crop to 4.5×3.5 cm and compress to 100 KB” — twice the real 50 KB photo cap, and no pixel dimensions at all. The declaration matters precisely because it has a 50 KB floor: a clean 800×400 scan of a few handwritten lines often encodes under 50 KB, which the portal rejects — PixFit pads it up with a spec-valid JPEG comment so it lands inside 50–100 KB at full quality.
Unlike SEBI and SIDBI, the IRDAI 2024 notification has no live webcam capture step — the uploaded photograph is the photograph. And there are no certificate uploads at application time: the notification says candidates need not upload application printouts or any certificates; your candidature rides on what you declare, with documents checked later. If the face in your photo or the signature is unclear, the application may be rejected — but you can edit and re-upload either image any time before final submission, so check the preview. The signature you upload is matched against what you sign on the call letter and attendance sheet; a mismatch is a disqualification ground.
You may apply in up to two specialist streams (Actuarial, Finance, Law, IT, Research) and/or Generalist — each stream needs its own application, its own fee (₹750 for most candidates; ₹100 intimation charges for SC/ST/PwBD) and its own set of these four uploads; duplicate applications in one stream are discarded keeping only the latest, fees forfeited. Selection runs Phase I online objective (qualifying only), Phase II descriptive and Phase III interview, weighted 85:15. In the 2024 cycle, applications ran August 21 – September 20, 2024, and the cycle completed with the selected-candidates list in early 2025 — so this page is here for the next cycle, which IRDAI has run roughly annually (2023, 2024).
