Drop your scanned signature, get a 140×60 px JPEG between 30 and 49 KB — the format the 2026 Railway CENs specify for ALP, NTPC, Group D, Technician and Section Controller applications. The 30 KB minimum is met by spec-valid padding. Nothing is uploaded; it all runs in your browser.
Indian Railways recruitment (rrbapply.gov.in — ALP, NTPC, Group D/Level-1, Technician, Section Controller and JE CENs all use the same application system) takes the scanned signature as a JPG/JPEG between 30 KB and 49 KB, at least 140×60 pixels, scanned at 100 DPI or better. The signature must be written by you in black ink on white paper, in running handwriting — RRB explicitly rejects signatures in BLOCK, CAPITAL or disjointed letters, and the same signature is checked again at the exam, document verification, medical and appointment stages. This page is preset to that format — including a 100 in the DPI label field, so the JPEG header carries the CENs' stated minimum scan resolution (raise it if your scanner used more; it's a label, and pixels and kilobytes are what validation checks). Confirmed first-party for the 2026 cycle: the detailed CEN 03/2026 (Section Controller) published by RRB Prayagraj — applications open July 15 – August 14, 2026, with a paid modification window August 27–31 — states the specification verbatim in para 17.7: JPG/JPEG only, between 30 KB and 49 KB, image dimensions minimum 140×60 pixels, scanned at 100 DPI or better, with the signature centered in a 50 mm × 20 mm box on the form. CEN 02/2026 (Technician categories) repeats the same numbers word for word. The CEN's rejection-grounds list is explicit and worth reading twice: a non-white background, non-black ink, BLOCK or CAPITAL letters, a blurred or partially visible signature, or a thumb impression where the signature should be — any one of these can void the application at any stage of the recruitment. (Candidates with a benchmark disability that prevents signing upload a fingerprint instead — the CEN sets the order: left thumb, right thumb, any finger, any toe.)
140×60 is only 8,400 pixels — a JPEG that small encodes at roughly 3–6 KB even at maximum quality, well below the portal's 30 KB floor. Resizing alone cannot produce an acceptable file, which is why so many RRB applicants get stuck at this step. The CENs set the paper box at 50 mm wide × 20 mm high with the signature centered in it, but what the portal validates is pixels and kilobytes, so a tight, wide crop of the signature itself is what matters — this page center-crops to the 140:60 shape, which satisfies the CENs' minimum exactly. Current RRB applications capture your photograph live through your webcam or phone front camera during form submission — para 17.5 of the 2026 CENs opens with “Candidates are not required to upload a pre-existing photograph while applying.” There is no photo file to resize, and an application where a printed or on-screen photo was held up to the camera is summarily rejected. The CEN's own capture advice: camera at eye level, look straight ahead with a neutral expression, whole face inside the frame, dark or non-white clothing for contrast against the light background, and no cap, mask or glasses. You can preview and retake until you submit. If the live photo fails the portal's validation and matching, the fallback is Annexure-IX — downloaded from the application and signed by a Gazetted Officer as identity proof. If a guide tells you to prepare a 320×240 photo of 30–70 KB, it's describing the retired upload process — that slot no longer exists. Two things you do still prepare: the SC/ST certificate for the free travel pass goes up as a PDF under 400 KB — the PDF-under-300 KB page lands it comfortably inside that cap — and on exam day itself you must bring a printed colour passport photograph not older than two months to the CBT, document verification and medical.
