Applications for Karnataka government posts — Gazetted Probationers (KAS), FDA/SDA, the Group A, B and C cadres — run through the commission’s One Time Registration portal at kpsconline.karnataka.gov.in. KPSC’s own OTR instructions (a Kannada PDF on kpsc.kar.nic.in) state the complete upload rule in one sentence: upload a recent passport-size photograph and your signature; the photograph must not exceed 200 KB, the signature must be within 70 KB, and both must be in JPEG/JPG format only. That is the whole published spec — no pixel dimensions, no minimum sizes. Drop the photo, download, upload once — the OTR profile carries it into every notification you apply for.
Search “KPSC photo resize” and the tools answer with confident, mutually contradictory numbers: one sells 200×230 pixels, max 100 KB with a 140×60 signature (those are IBPS’s bank-exam boxes, at half KPSC’s real caps); another 200×250 px, 30–100 KB with invented minimums; a third 3.5×4.5 cm ≈ 140×180 px at 30 KB; a fourth an “official” 20–100 KB window. None of these figures appears in KPSC’s instructions. The commission’s actual cap — 200 KB — is two to seven times more generous than what these tools compress your photo down to, so following them costs you exactly the thing the admit-card printer needs: image quality. At the 195 KB preset, almost any phone portrait fits with no visible compression at all. There is also no published minimum, so nothing ever needs padding.
Half the top “KPSC” resize results are for the wrong state. Kerala PSC’s Thulasi portal wants a pixel-exact 150×200 photograph under 30 Kb with your name and the date printed on the image — a completely different, stricter spec that Karnataka’s portal neither requires nor documents. If your form is Thulasi, use the Kerala PSC page; if it’s kpsconline.karnataka.gov.in, the numbers on this page are the ones the commission itself publishes.
Sign on white paper, photograph or scan it, and note the format rule applies to the signature too: JPEG/JPG only — a PNG export will not match the instruction. For the signature pass, set the target to 68 KB and use the signature cleanup tool: it finds the ink, trims to it, whitens the paper, and hands back a JPEG under the cap. 70 KB is a roomy budget for a signature — quality is never the constraint; format and bytes are.
The instructions say recent and passport-size; they publish no width or height. A normal passport-style head-and-shoulders crop — roughly 3:4, say 600×800 pixels — looks right in the profile and prints cleanly on the admit card, but that is composition advice, not a portal rule. One honest caveat: the application portal itself only shows its upload widget after login, so if the screen in front of you states a number this page doesn’t, believe the form — over resizer sites, and over this page too.
OTR is exactly what the name says: you register once, and the profile — photo and signature included — is considered for every KPSC notification afterwards. The commission’s instructions walk through it: create the account at kpsconline.karnataka.gov.in with your mobile and email, verify identity against Aadhaar, Kutumba ID, ration card or UDID, and SSLC details from 2003 onward auto-fill from the SSLC registration number. After login, “Apply to Post” lists the active notifications and the system checks your eligibility against the profile automatically — which is why the profile, including the photo you upload today, is worth getting right once. A photo tied to your Aadhaar-verified government-job profile shouldn’t detour through a resizer’s server, and most “KPSC resize” tools are exactly that: server-side uploads.
