The Armenia e-Visa photo format

Armenia's official e-Visa portal (evisa.mfa.am, run by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs) publishes its facial-photo rules right on the application form: JPEG, PNG or BMP files only, the picture's smallest side larger than 250 px, the largest side under the cap, width-to-height ratio anywhere from 1:8 to 3:1, and a file-size cap. That is the whole spec — there is no required pixel size, no required aspect ratio in practice, and no minimum file size. This page presets a 5.5 MB target that passes every reading of the portal's own numbers: drop your photo and PixFit hands back a JPEG the form accepts, without the photo ever leaving your device.

6 MB or 10 MB? The portal disagrees with itself

Two captions on the same upload step give different caps. The Photo requirements popup says the maximum is 10 MB with the largest side under 10,000 px — and the form's own client-side check enforces exactly 10 MB. But the help text beside the upload button says “up to 6000×6000 pixel with maximum size 6MB”. Rather than gamble on which limit the server applies on the day, stay inside the intersection: a JPEG at or under 6 MB with no side over 6000 px — that passes every reading, which is why this page presets 5.5 MB. (A quirk for the curious: the form's width checks are wired to misspelled attributes, so the browser only ever validates height — but the server still rejects images smaller than 250×250, so don't lean on the bug.)

The “600×600” and “6000×6000” numbers guides sell

Third-party photo sites have filled the gap where an official pixel spec would be. One sells an “Armenia e-visa photo 600×600 px, light background” page; another sells two contradicting pages for the same country (35×45 mm at 600 DPI on one, exactly 1×1 inch on the other); several sell “exactly 2×2 inches”. One site even instructs that the photo “must be 6000×6000 px” — selling the portal's maximum as a requirement, thirty-odd megapixels for a form that accepts anything above 250 px a side. None of these numbers appear anywhere on evisa.mfa.am. A normal, sharp head-and-shoulders photo straight off a phone is fine: keep the smallest side comfortably above 250 px, keep the longest side at or under 6000 px, and let the byte target above handle the rest. If you want a classic passport framing anyway, type 900x1200 into Exact size and drag the crop preview — allowed, just not required.

What PixFit is actually for here

Three real jobs. First, iPhone photos: the form takes JPEG/PNG/BMP, not HEIC — PixFit decodes HEIC in your browser and hands back a JPEG. Second, oversized files: modern phone photos regularly exceed 6 MB and 6000 px; the preset target re-encodes to just under the line at the best quality that fits, and if your photo is over 6000 px on a side, set Max edge to 6000. Third, already-small files: if your photo is under the target, PixFit tells you it already fits — upload the original and close this tab. There's no minimum, so nothing needs padding, and the re-encode strips EXIF metadata (including GPS) as a side effect.

The passport scan and supporting documents

The same form requires a passport scan (JPG, PNG, BMP or PDF, up to 6 MB) and recommends supporting documents — air ticket, hotel reservation, invitation, insurance, proof of funds — as JPG/PNG/BMP/DOC/PDF up to 6 MB each. Photograph the passport page flat, whole page in frame, the two machine-readable lines at the bottom sharp and glare-free. The portal's own passport rules are worth checking before you start: valid for at least 3 months after your intended departure from Armenia, at least 2 pages free of stamps, issued within the last 10 years, and for minors the parent's passport is attached. A scan that needs to be a specific size can be wrapped into a one-page PDF at a guaranteed size, entirely in your browser.

Do you even need an e-Visa?

Armenia waives visas entirely for citizens of many countries — typically for stays up to 90 days — and others can get a visa on arrival at the border. The application flow starts with the portal's own eligibility checker: enter your citizenship and travel document type and it tells you whether you need an e-Visa at all before you spend anything. The fee is non-refundable — USD 8 for the 21-day visitor e-Visa, USD 39 for the 120-day one — so run the checker first.

Before you pay

Facts from the portal itself: processing takes up to 3 working days (counted from the next business day); the confirmation email at the start of the flow is valid for 24 hours; your application ID (15 characters) arrives by email after payment — keep it, it's how you check status; and the form warns that entered data must match your documents or entry can be refused at the border even with a visa. Single-entry and multi-entry options exist for both durations.

Apply on the official site, resize on your own machine

Searching “Armenia visa” surfaces agency sites with official-sounding domains — including ones inventing the pixel rules above — that file the same form at a markup. The only official application site is evisa.mfa.am; type the address rather than clicking an ad. And since a visa photo travels with your passport scan, it shouldn't detour through a resizer's server: PixFit re-encodes entirely in your browser and nothing is uploaded. Travelling onward in the region? See the Uzbekistan e-visa page, or the full verified table.

Spec source: the application form's own published requirements and validation limits at evisa.mfa.am, as read July 2026. These numbers change — if your upload screen disagrees, believe the portal.
